Covid-19 cases in Germany are rising exponentially

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) said that the metric could reach 200 by the middle of next month. An epidemiologist at the RKI, Dirk Brockmann, said Germany was in the third wave of the pandemic. This situation is driven by the fact that the authorities relaxed restrictions in recent weeks as a new variant of the coronavirus has spread to a number of countries.

"It really doesn't make sense to relax here, because it will drive this exponential growth," Brockmann told German ARD television.

The government and the authorities will carry out further discussions regarding the lifting of social restrictions on 22 March. The Berlin government decided to postpone the easing of restrictions on Monday (15/3).
Chancellor Angela Merkel and state leaders approved a gradual easing of restrictions earlier this month. They give authorities the authority to reimpose the restrictions if the number of cases rises above 100 per 100,000 in three consecutive days.


Brockmann noted that 1,000 out of a million people have died from Covid-19, compared to a 1 in 1 likelihood of complications related to vaccines. Previously, AstraZeneca said, based on its safety analysis data, more than 17 million doses of the vaccine given showed no evidence of an increased risk of pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, or low platelet levels.
Germany's decision to suspend the AstraZeneca vaccine could delay progress towards achieving herd immunity. The decision followed seven cases of thrombosis in Germany, including three deaths.


"In the risk group, the risk of dying from Covid-19 is much higher. That means the chances of dying from Covid-19 are 100,000 times greater than from the AstraZeneca vaccine, "said Brockman.
